BLACK EraSURE part 1 I’m watching blackness get erased We are a part of the earth like graphite And now the written books don’t even say our names What were our names Who is we Where are we from where are we now Where are we going as black people Do we have a home? I can’t see It’s like I’m snow blind White out White washing White papers White People are coming The white people are coming In every urban area they are coming In droves And they are driving us out The suburbs begin to resemble The areas outside of Paris where brown folks are trapped and have no mode of transportation - there is a disconnect Geographically and experientially if you don’t see us .. do we exist? Detroit and dc will no longer be majority black What happens when chocolate cities turn into almond milk Metropolitan areas exclusive to the empowered and elite? You say that I sound like an angry black man Well what black man in his right mind wouldn’t be angry Are the police an occupying force in your neighborhood Have the history books erased your experience Do we own your sources for news, education and healthcare Do we poison your food? Did we make laws that said that you are 3/5 s of a person and only for the purpose of taxation In modern day, prisoners are going to be counted as living in the county of the jail incarcerating them , giving areas more money for more prisoners - yet those prisoners when released often times will not be able to vote How is 50% of a prison black when only 8 percent of the population of that county is black Two answers - you think black People are somehow actually that deviant - either due to poverty or abject neglect or we have an inherent inability to assimilate … which is racist Or you say that the system is racist Now what? Do you keep working for the system With the system In the system Do you say burn down the system Or do you realize there is no system Just chaos and people and every decision you make matters… So now what

about

Snowblind a collaborative project featuring music by Kanizzle and lyrics by Stonehenge Parnhashnakovsky.

A two song project. Black Erasure and Fringe

Black erasure is an excerpt from the book “Thoughts of an Angry Black Man” that addresses the historical marginalization, ostracization and oppression of Black folks.

If people and communities are not recognized as existing then are their experiences, their lives and the products of their being.. meaningful?

Black Erasure is a critique of the ways in which Africans and people of African descent have been dehumanized, dispossessed and removed from the western awareness.

It's about more than gentrification, it's about more than dispossession of land, it's about more than the police being an active executioner for the state in an attempts to eradicate black men.. it's about the continued system that allows all of those aforementioned barbarism to continue and all the people that are complicit in the destruction black civilization. How could anybody with any awareness of how our prison industrial complex works not want to reform it? Do people care about the lives of black people disappeared by the carceral system ?

What role do we all play?

------
The second piece "fringe" is a three part examination of metaphysics, epistemology, contemporary economic theories, personal prospects for prosperity and the possibility of developing of sustainable living practices. The content ranges from the esoteric such as the existential question of why we are alive to the very pertinent and corporal such as police misconduct, expectations for the oppressed and liberation movements.

The reality of being fringe is the experience of being marginalized, overlooked, dismissed and how that can motivate a person or group of people to seek autonomy, to make themselves visible and to be intentioned about affecting the world around them

Presented in a tangle of polysyllabic word play, no choruses and dense internal & external rhyme schemes, you get a lot of heart, emotion and curiosity.

- what is seemingly free association, is not - the rhyme pattern and literary devices are purposeful and arranged as a puzzle of sorts for the listener to decipher. Each set of lyrics has a thematic thread tied very closely to the recurring notions of hegemony, inequity, iniquity, identity construction, the conflicts inherent in billions of people living, and the human capacity for resilience, adaption, and collective partnership in solving problems.

FROM JOSH (KANIZZLE)
As I reflect on my time in music and art, it’s easy to see that one of the biggest hurdles to ‘success’ has been a sort of fierce individuality, DIY aesthetic, and zero desire to play ‘the game’ for the sake of getting more fans. At the end of the day, I’m way more interested in pushing culture, an identity and voice that are mine and no one else’s, and feeling a level of integrity as an artist that I can fall asleep at night knowing I always did ‘me’ to the best of my ability. This path, albeit not one that has brought me glory and fame, has brought into my own circle phenomenal lifelong relationships with like minded individuals who I happen to see as the most talented people the world has ever brought into existence. Chris, aka Christoph aka Christopher aka Parnhashnakovsky, is definitely one of those magical humans…

Chris and I have been in pretty consistent contact over the past decade and a half, with definite lulls and highs in communication yet in general there’s always been a mutual admiration and respect which has kept us in each others lives since meeting many moons ago. Over that time we have collaborated artistically once, yet have said over and over and over that we were going to do something again. So over the past year we’ve both ‘utilized’ the pandemic to catch the Eurorack/Modular synth bug, and this has become a topic of conversation from time to time. When Chris shared with me some spoken word pieces by Annie R U OK which he had co-created with the help of his own Eurorack setup, it immediately put me into the headspace of ‘Yooooooo let’s get a spoken word piece from you on top of one of these drones I’ve done’! Chris had just recently released his book, ‘Thoughts of an Angry Black Man’, which I found particularly powerful AND needed to get in front of more eyes so immediately suggested we do a piece from the book as a promo piece. I sent Chris a ton of things to choose from, he picked two, recorded one from the book and one original one, sent the vocals back, I made it weird, and…..here we are, with two pieces I think we’re both grateful to share with the world!

Both of these pieces are fully ‘generative’ patches in Eurorack, where they have been patched in a way in which the synth ‘plays’ itself. They were also one take, not-multitracked-stereo-in experiments in meditation, learning, and letting go…..and unpatched immediately after recording.

I am absolutely fascinated at the idea of modular synth as an instrument you design, yet an instrument in the classic sense of something you’re actually ‘playing’. It’s an even greater challenge to figure out how to make something interesting which will play itself (shoutout to Jeru) without you even touching it. You’re literally guiding the electricity into its own neural network, creating new connections which never existed prior and will take on a life of their own.

These patches have long since been pulled apart, but after a quick listen some modules that were definitely used -
